Where do I start?

• I like to start by encouraging couples to dream their dreams. What music do you enjoy? What songs have been important to you in your relationship? What music would make the perfect evening? What ‘vibe’ do you want your wedding reception to have? What music would fit that? Have a dream! It may well be possible and affordable to make it come true!
• Think about your guests. At a wedding there is such a wide cross section of ages and interests. What would they enjoy? What music would include most people? What would give them a great time?

Why book a band?

• Having a live band helps create a unique occasion rather than just another disco. The energy and vitality that a good band give out can really bring an electricity to the evening. I love it when we build a rapport with our audience, we find that as the audience respond more and more, the band will give more and more in their performance. It is a wonderful experience and makes a great evening!
• Sometimes people have a DJ and a band: we have played and got the party cooking before a DJ takes over and into the night. This is good if your budget allows it but we also provide a CD player to play before and in between our sets. We find that this usually covers a whole night of music and is cheaper than hiring a DJ. Sometimes couples like to make their own compilation CD of their own favourite tunes for these times.

Why book a jazz band?

• It is amazing how one genre can be loved right across the generations. It never ceases to surprise me to see grandpa and granny dancing and having as much fun as the 20 and 30 somethings. It’s the music they grew up with, but it’s never been more popular today- even Robbie Williams wants to have a go!
• We have all played in other function bands playing the usual funk, soul and disco covers but we all agree that what you get from the jazzbomb is different. There is much more of a sense of occasion, the panache of Sinatra, the glitz of Vegas, it’s much more sassy and stylish. And of course when we play you can be assured we will look as sharp as we sound.

Why book Sam Chaplin and the Jazzbomb?

• When I say that the Jazzbomb is made up of some of the top jazz players in the nation sometimes people fear that the music will be weird and inaccessible or just plain hard on the ears! In the right context we like to stretch ourselves with that kind of music but when we get together as the Jazzbomb there’s only one thing we want to do- we want to throw a party! That’s why we have carefully chosen our repertoire so it is stacked with full-on floor-fillers that get you going whilst remaining within our jazz genre.

What about dinner jazz?

• We can provide the highest quality ‘dinner jazz’ during a drinks reception or meal. We can play as a trio, a quartet or even just a cocktail pianist to suit your event. It really does create the perfect atmosphere as we play unintrusively allowing people to engage in conversation, relax and feel great. I thoroughly recommend it as the perfect aide for digestion!

An event tailored to fit…

• I usually like to meet up with the couple to discover exactly what your dreams are, to work through realistic timings (I haven’t played at a wedding yet that hasn’t overrun!!!), talk through the practical requirements clearly, to discuss what you would like as a first and final dance and to get to know you and discover exactly the kind of event you are looking for.
• It is also important to us to have good contact the week before the event to confirm the arrangements and to be notified of any changes so that you can enjoy your day with as little stress as possible.
